Karl Nyhlin, born in Umeå, northern Sweden, studied lute and continuo playing in Stockholm and Malmö. He was subsequently awarded several major scholarships, including a Fulbright, to study with Nigel North at IU Bloomington, Indiana, where he completed his studies in 2002.
Based in Stockholm, Karl is in great demand across Europe, as both a soloist and continuo player on various lutes, theorbos and early guitars. He works regularly with distinguished early music ensembles across Europe, such as B’Rock Orchestra (Belgium) and Les Talens Lyriques (France). He is also principal lutenist of the Drottningholm Court Theatre Orchestra in Sweden. He has performed in over 35 countries on six continents. Karl has made numerous recordings as an ensemble musician, and two critically acclaimed solo CDs.
